Communications Committee – the Eleventh Tradition at work

The Communications Subcommittee is one of the six standing subcommittees of the Greater Toronto Area Intergroup (GTAI). We support Intergroup’s mission by ensuring that information shared with AA members, groups, and the public is clear, accurate, timely, and consistent with AA’s Twelve Traditions.

Our Primary Responsibilities

The Communications Subcommittee is primarily responsible for maintaining the content of the Greater Toronto Intergroup website. This includes keeping all information—meeting lists, announcements, events, and service materials—current and accurate.

We are also responsible for producing the monthly GTA Intergroup newsletter, Better Times, which shares experience, strength, hope, and service updates with the Fellowship.

Communication is at the heart of A.A.’s mission…to extend the hand of recovery from alcoholism to anyone who seeks help. It begins with one alcoholic sharing their experience, strength, and hope with another alcoholic. But it has proved to be far reaching beyond our local church basements and clubhouses to now include the vast world linked by the technological advances of the internet, online meetings, meeting guides, apps and websites such as this one.

  • Provides accurate information or refers requests to the appropriate AA service entity when needed.
    • No one person speaks for A.A.
    • we provide information not persuasion
    • we guide people to our history, our Steps and Traditions, local meetings, literature and other committees that help inside and outside of A.A.
  • Supports other Intergroup subcommittees by assisting with communication needs related to events, workshops, and announcements.
  • Helps ensure all communication respects AA’s commitment to unity, anonymity, and spiritual principles.
