Share Your Story – Your Experience Could Change a Life
Every recovery journey is unique, and every story has the power to inspire someone else.
We’re inviting members of our AA community to share their experience, strength, and hope by submitting a personal story for our blog.
Whether you’re celebrating 30 days or 30 years of sobriety, your experience could be the hope that someone else is searching for today.
Not sure what to write about? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- What was your very first AA meeting like?
- What finally brought you through the doors of AA?
- How did you find your first sponsor?
- What did your first sponsor teach you that still stays with you today?
- What was it like the first time you sponsored someone else?
- Which of the Twelve Steps had the biggest impact on your recovery, and why?
- Was there a particular meeting or speaker that changed your life?
- How did you celebrate your first 24 hours, 30 days, 90 days, or one-year sobriety milestone?
- What challenges have you overcome in recovery?
- How has your family or your relationships changed since getting sober?
- What role has fellowship played in your journey?
- Have you experienced a Higher Power in a way you never expected?
- What is one piece of advice you would give to someone attending their first meeting?
- How has service work strengthened your recovery?
- What’s the funniest or most memorable moment you’ve experienced in AA?
- What does “one day at a time” mean to you today?
- How has sobriety changed your life beyond simply not drinking?
- What have you learned about gratitude, forgiveness, or acceptance?
- Is there a slogan, reading, or saying from AA that has carried you through difficult times?
- If you could write a letter to your newcomer self, what would you say?
- Tell us about a turning point in your recovery.
- Share a moment when someone else’s story gave you hope.
- What does recovery look like for you today?
- Tell us about your experience, strength, and hope in your own words.
Remember, there is no “perfect” story. The stories that touch hearts the most are the ones told with honesty and authenticity. Your words may be exactly what someone needs to hear to take their first step toward recovery.
Your story doesn’t have to be perfect—it just needs to be honest.
Submission Guidelines:
- Length: 650–1,500 words
- Write from the heart.
- Please avoid using full names to help protect anonymity.
- Stories may be edited for grammar and formatting while preserving your voice.
Together, we can build a collection of stories that offer hope, encouragement, and a reminder that no one has to walk this journey alone.
We can’t wait to read your story.
